By June 2016, the Configuration Action Team will implement specific plans and professional development at each level (Elementary, Middle and High) to improve our scheduling; program offerings; curriculum needs/re-writing; procedures; staffing needs and training in order to improve student learning.
The progress of the configuration action team will enhance the instruction of the district, by aligning learning not only K-12, but with best instructional practice. It is currently broken into three subcommittees: Elementary, Middle, and High School.
The middle school subcommittee met on December 1st to discuss the middle school advisory program.
The high school subcommittee has met twic this year to discuss the transition to the block schedule, and more specifically organizing the pilot block scheduled for a four day window during PARCC testing. Over 50 teachers at the high school are visiting nine different high schools to understand and analyze instructional shifts. (Summit, Chatham, West Essex, Ridgewood, Cedar Grove, Verona, Livingston, Northern Highlands, and West Orange) The high school also completed a day of professional development on November 8th, 2016 to support planning shifts with a longer class period, and trends in Nutley's PARCC data analysis.
