STRATEGIC PLAN - CURRICULUM

CURRICULUM

By June 2017, the district will develop and implement a thorough, data-based process for analyzing curriculum, instruction, assessment, student performance, professional development, and resources in all curricular areas ensuring that professional practice is always current, relevant, and aligned to the most updated standards. Each curricular area will be reviewed on a, at most, five-year timeline.  The results of each process will be presented publicly.

Year One Goal:
By June 2013, the Curriculum Committee will assemble a team of staff and interested stakeholders who will define the components of Nutley's curriculum review process, complete program reviews in Music and World Languages and make recommendations based on the findings to better inform future program reviews. This work will culminate with a full report and a presentation to the Board of Education.

Year Two Goal:
By June 2014, the Curriculum Committee will assist the Health/Physical Education and Science Departments in conducting their program reviews, assess the program review document’s clarity and continue to revise the process and document.  The curriculum committee will also create a resources piloting process and document(s) in order to guide the resources selection for World Languages and English as a Second Language.  This work will culminate with a full report and a presentation to the Board of Education.

Year Three Goal:
By June 2015, the Curriculum Committee will assist the departments in Year 4 of the curriculum cycle in the program review process and the departments in Year 5 of the curriculum cycle in the piloting process.  The clarity of the aforementioned processes and related documents will be evaluated and revised.  The Curriculum Committee will also create a curriculum mapping process along with corresponding templates and documents.  This work will culminate with a full report and a presentation to the Board of Education.

Year Four Goal:
By June 2016, the Curriculum Committee will assist academic departments in the program review, pilot, and mapping processes.  The committee members will evaluate the clarity of the aforementioned processes and related documents and make any necessary revisions.  The Curriculum Committee will also create a curriculum overview template for parents.  This work will culminate with a full report and a presentation to the Board of Education.

Year Five Goal:
By June 2017, the Curriculum Committee will assist academic departments in the program review, pilot, mapping and parent curriculum overview processes.  The committee members will continue to evaluate the clarity of the aforementioned processes as the district transitions to the second phase of the 5-year curriculum cycle for all academic programs.   This work will culminate with a full report and a presentation to the Board of Education.
