PANDAS
An area in southwest China has one of the world's rarest animals, the giant Panda.
About 1,000 of these black and white pandas live there in the wild.
Pandas weigh an about 200 to 300 pounds and reach about six feet in length.
WHAT DO PANDAS EAT ?
Pandas eat mostly bamboo shoots and leaves. Pandas eat a lot and spend 12 hours a day eating and they eat fast!
They have to eat 2 different kinds of bamboo so they don’t starve.
Scientists do not agree on if pandas are "bears" or more like raccoons or their own species. They share some features of bears and some of raccoons.
WHERE DO PANDAS LIVE ?
Pandas are shy and don’t go in areas where people live.
People continue to move into where the pandas live making their habitat smaller and smaller. They are also cutting down the bamboo leaving less food for them to eat. This is why pandas are an endangered species.
Pandas are famous for their black and white markings their legs, shoulders, ears and oval patches around the eyes are black and the rest of the coats is white.
WHAT DO PANDAS DO WELL ?
They are good tree climbers, pandas can also swim to escape a predators.
