Welcome to second grade. We plan to have a busy, exciting and fun year. The children will work on various activities which will enhance their reading skills such as writing book reports, making mobiles, dioramas, and puppets telling about books they’ve read. The second graders will also write stories, give oral presentations, learn grammar skills and read various types of poetry. The Book Fair allowed students to purchase books of interest. In math, the boys and girls will work on varied skills such as addition and subtraction, time, money, measurement, fractions, solving word problems, etc. Second grade will give students the opportunity to work up to their fullest potential by exploring different learning techniques. Open house was a great success; all parents attended, perused their children’s work and learned about second grade expectations. October will continue to be a very busy month. The students will learn about fire prevention and safety. The fire department will visit to discuss fire safety, and display equipment used. The students will learn about Christopher Columbus through stories, news articles, and classroom discussions. Violence awareness will be another topic of discussion this month. Red ribbon week will also make students aware of drugs and how harmful they are. Students will actively get involved in story writing and role play in given situations, which will allow students to make appropriate decisions. Finally the students will have the opportunity to visit the Pumpkin Patch and participate in the Halloween Day Parade. WOW! What a busy time this will be for us. |
