| Everyone’s schedule seems to be full and sometimes it seems difficult to fit in the important things in life like good nutrition and adequate sleep. Most children require 9-12 hours of sleep a night. With working parents, homework and after school schedules getting tighter, it is important for children to have an opportunity to catch up on his/her sleep when possible and not to deprive them of their needed sleep by letting them stay up extra late on days off. Breakfast and a nutritious lunch are also a key factor in helping your child function optimally. They should have a health balance of fruits/veggies, protein (nuts, meat, dairy), and carbohydrates (for long acting energy), limiting the amount of junk food. Drinking plenty of sugar free liquids, especially during warmer days will also help keep them healthy and on track. Teach your children these simple techniques and it could dramatically reduce the amount of infectious diseases spread in your home and at school.
