Resource

Mrs. Giordano, Mrs. McGovern

We have been working very hard using The Wilson language program.  We are learning
syllable types and where to divide our words.  We reinforce these skills continuously
through our reading and writing.  Some of the writing projects we have done so far
include Our Everyday Heroes, which were proudly displayed outside of our classroom.  We will begin writing Creepy Tales and fall themed poetry.

In the areas of math we are continuing to use our touch points to add and subtract while regrouping our numbers.  We’ve worked on graphing, ordered pairs, probability, place value, and problem solving.  We will continue applying these skills throughout our math lessons and begin a weekly math journal that focuses on an open-ended approach to problem solving.

Ms. MacMillan

Fall has arrived, and like jumping into newly raked piles of leaves, the students of Ms.
MacMillan's resource center are leaping into learning.  Fourth grade math class members are currently focusing on identifying geometric figures and correctly using geometric terms.  Having reviewed basics utilizing strategies from TouchMath and SempleMath, they will continue to apply these skills as they move to higher level computation and word problems as the season progresses.

Inclusion students in both reading and math are also undertaking new challenges.  Fourth grade language literacy students are learning specialized strategies as they read story selections.  Citing from the text when responding to open-ended questions is a particular focus.  Sixth graders are especially enjoying reading the novel Maniac Magee as they engage in interpreting figurative language and analyzing the author's craft.  Math students in the sixth grade are stretching their academic muscles as they undertake mastering more advanced concepts.

Support students are focusing their energies on using strategies for reading in the content areas.  Test-taking skills are being practiced.  At this time, it is particularly important that parents routinely check with their children concerning homework assignments, upcoming tests, and due dates for special projects.  Parents, please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns.
