For those of you who may be new to the school or have never been involved in any events before, this is just an idea of what it means to "volunteer" for or "chair" an event.

Volunteering for any of the PTO events can involve many different things. One of the first things that we usually need for any event is a chairperson, someone to take charge, be responsible for coordinating the event, contacting the volunteers, planning and preparing for the event. Also keeping in contact with the event coordinator on budgets, previous information from past events, suggestions and ideas that may be helpful for future events. Contacting the school where the events may be held example: hallway, music room, gym, etc., and if you need tables set up, the office can have custodians help you prepare. Possibly order supplies, snacks, decorations or other things needed for event. Collecting money for the event, if necessary. Contact PTO secretary for any flyers or memos, reminder notices that need to go out to the students for events.

Do not let all of this discourage you from volunteering, not all of these events need all of this work. Some more than others and some less. The PTO board is always willing to help out and do whatever we can to make your event planning successful. Also there are many prior chair people and volunteers that are available to offer insight, advice and suggestions about planning from prior events. This is also where the volunteers come in.

Volunteering, but not as the "chairperson", is to be involved with helping out with the event. Working with the chairperson, sharing duties and responsibilities and donating "TIME" to help out. It may be as simple as setting up, cleaning up or helping with snacks, decorating, or helping to sell snacks at the bake sale or plant sale.

We are always in need of help for any event. We encourage you to attend the monthly PTO meetings to find out what it's all about, but we will be sending home notices for volunteering at the events. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have.
