Once a glorious city, Chichen Itza is now a site for tourists to see how Mayan’s may have lived. Located in Mexico, the city was a decent sized city for its time. Its name, roughly translated, means the mouth of the well of the magicians of water.
Although it was a city from ancient times, it was surprisingly advanced for its time. It had training halls, its own market, various temples in worship to gods, and its own recreation area, which is often referred to as the ball court. The ball court was used for a game similar to a combination of our soccer and basketball. A big ring was extended high off the side of a wall on both sides. The objective was to get the ball in the other teams ring, though details on the rules are uncertain, such as whether you used hands or feet or some instrument to accomplish this.
