As part of the Nutley Public Schools' ongoing district-wide, long-term technology plan, all sixth grade students were issued a Hewlett Packard 14" G4 Chromebook starting in January 2017. Starting in September of 2017, all students in grades six through eight will be issued their own Chromebook. We believe the opportunity for each student to have their own device will result in an overall enhanced educational experience, better student organizational skills and expansion of learning and sharing beyond the walls of the traditional classroom. In addition, we believe that every student has a right to an education that prepares them for further education and/or future employment, and develops the skills that they must have as citizens of the 21st Century: creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. These 21st Century skills are essential for problem solving in not only college but to compete in a global economy.
A Chromebook is a laptop that runs off Google’s web-based Chrome operating system and allows students to store and access information on the cloud (free digital storage space accessible from any Internet connection). These devices also incorporate many of Google's G-Suite platform including G-Mail, Calendar, Google Drive, and Google Apps for Education. These tools provide greater ease and ability for communication and collaboration with other students and also between students and staff.
We are very excited to provide a transformative, engaging, and collaborative educational program to our students.
