NHS Lockdown Update

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Thank you for your patience as we have cooperated with the Nutley Police. While the investigation is still ongoing, we are able now to share more details regarding the recent lockdown at Nutley High School.

On September 23, the Nutley Police received information that a Nutley High School student was in possession of a handgun.   We initiated a lockdown to safeguard all students and faculty while a search was conducted. Police and School Officials determined that there was no weapon in the building and no imminent threat to students or faculty. An arrest of a High School student was subsequently made. At this time the investigation has been turned over to the Essex County Prosecutors Office.

As always, the safety of our students and staff is of the highest concern, and this is why we collaborate with the local authorities to ensure the safest possible learning environment.

Sincerely,
Russell M. Lazovick
Superintendent-Nutley Schools
