NHS Juniors and Seniors: Two Days Left to Register!

Through a partnership between Nutley Public Schools and Caldwell University, we are excited to offer you an opportunity to expand your educational experiences by taking college level courses, starting this winter!  There will be two courses offered. The courses will run from January 22, 2024 through May 15, 2024. The courses are:

General Psychology (3 credits)

Description: This course provides a survey of the major areas of psychology, the scientific study of behavior and mental processes.  Major content areas include research methodology, biopsychology, learning, psychopathology, and cognitive social and developmental psychology.

This course will be offered in a fully virtual asynchronous format with weekly deliverables (i.e. assignments due), which means that you would take the class online and on your own schedule but following the timelines and deadlines set by a college faculty.

College Readiness/First-Year Seminar (1 credit)

Description: This course is designed to assist students with their transition to college and enable them to grow intellectually and personally.  Through weekly goal-oriented sessions, students develop their critical thinking and writing skills.  They learn academic and personal life skills including information literacy, academic integrity, learning styles and strategies, career exploration, time management and health and wellness.  Additionally, students will develop their understanding of the advising and registration process and develop an awareness of the Core Curriculum and its role in a liberal arts education.

This course will be offered in a hybrid format, with some of the course online in a virtual asynchronous format plus five in-person sessions here at NHS during common lunch on the following dates: January 25, 2024, February 8, 2024, February 29, 2024, March 21, 2024, & April 18, 2024.

This course will also include two field trips to the Caldwell University Campus: Social Justice Symposium on March 1, and Research and Creative Arts Day on April 17. NHS will provide transportation and students will be provided with lunch, tours of campus, and the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the campus and support services that are being discussed in the First-Year Seminar 1 credit course.
