When asked what the most important tool in their workday is, every great nurse would surely answer, “My heart.”

My name is Victoria Gonzalez, but my students call me Nurse Vicky. I have been working in student support services for over twenty years bringing with me, over 30 years of nursing experience. I have strong leadership skills as well as a strong knowledge base in the nursing field. My background is in critical care, respiratory, and oncology. During my nursing career, I have been a Director of Oncology, a Critical Care Manager, and currently a School Nurse and Nursing Supervisor. These experiences give me a unique perspective when dealing with crisis situations. It is important to have a strong knowledge base to deal with the many dynamic issues that can occur with any client population. It is imperative that as a school nurse, you can critically think in any situation to meet the growing healthcare needs of our children. My goal is to manage my students’ medical needs so they can benefit from an educational system. I truly believe as did Dr. Jocelyn Elders, 15th Surgeon General of the United States who stated. “You can’t educate a child who isn’t healthy and you can’t keep a child healthy who isn’t educated.”
