Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and caring environment where students will achieve success. Our school staff is experienced, bringing forth a wealth of subject area knowledge and a strong pedagogy allowing the best educational experiences for our students. Staff members meet and plan on a regular basis to offer a consistent and cohesive educational program for the children of Nutley. During the 2015-2016 school year, our staff members will work collaboratively to infuse the new language arts and math curriculum into the classrooms. In addition they will continue to integrate technology into their lessons.
During the upcoming school year, our students will participate in a number of educational activities including Battle of the Books, field trips, Geography Bee, Reading Buddies, These activities will afford our students the opportunity to gain a broader perspective than their everyday classroom. Our staff will work on professional development related to formulating common assessments, learning about balanced literacy, and understanding the importance of reflection and peer review in the teaching process. They will accomplish this by utilizing common planning periods, attending workshops, and faculty meetings.
Parents and community members play an integral role in the education of our students. Staff members are diligent in disseminating information through classroom newsletters, teacher web sites, and building reminders and notices. The use of email is extremely effective in communicating. Spring Garden School provides the opportunity for parents and community members to participate in school-based activities through open communication and an open door policy. The Spring Garden School Parent-Teacher Organization provides valuable assistance to the students, staff, and administration by organizing school programs such as the dances, book fairs, strawberry festival, and assemblies, as well as providing monetary donations and supplies to the schools.
