LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

We are pleased to be offering our Local Scholarship Program to the class of 2024, open to NHS students as well as Nutley residents graduating in 2024.  Thank you to all of our generous community donors for making this possible.  The application process can be fully completed online.   All the information you need to complete your Local Scholarships is below:

Step 1: View the Local Scholarship Screencast created by Mrs. Aviles which will walk you through the application process and provide you with a step-by-step visual guide.

Step 2: Review the Local Scholarships List available along with their application criteria and any possible required supplements. Supplemental applications and materials are linked in the above spreadsheet.

Step 3: Next, complete the general Local Scholarship Application which is required for all scholarships on the list (If you are working on your Chromebook, open, edit and save the file using Kami.  If you are using another device, download, edit and save the file using Adobe Acrobat).  Save your Local Scholarship Application to your computer and name it with the following naming pattern:

LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_LocalApp

Example: GERCKENS_MEREDITH_LocalApp

You will upload this general application to each scholarship you apply to.  Some scholarships only require the general application.  Others require this general application PLUS additional items such as an essay, a picture of artwork, a video, or a supplemental application (an extra application specific to their organization).

Step 4: Remember to review the Local Scholarship List (supplemental materials column) to  complete the additional items for any of your selected scholarships that require them.  Each scholarship has been assigned a number.  As you complete your supplemental items, save them to your computer as you go along using the following naming pattern:

LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_DescriptionofAdditonalItem_#

Examples: If I am submitting my additional items for Scholarship #5, I would prepare and save the documents like this:

GERCKENS_MEREDITH_Essay_5

GERCKENS_MEREDITH_Video_5

GERCKENS_MEREDITH_SupplementalApplication_5

Step 5: Congratulations! You are now READY to submit your Local Scholarship applications.  Make sure all of your files are saved and ready to go.  Now you should access the Local Scholarship Google Form to upload and submit your application materials.  Here, you will see all the scholarships listed in alphabetical and numerical order.  For each scholarship you will click YES or NO to identify if you are applying or not.  For each scholarship you ARE applying to, upload your general Local Scholarship Application and any associated supplements if needed.  You will submit the Google Form ONCE, it will include all of your applications.

The FINAL DEADLINE for submission of your Local Scholarship Google Form with all completed application materials is Friday, February 23rd at 3:00pm.

The School Counselors will be visiting every senior health class to talk to students about the above local scholarship application process during the first two weeks of January.  There will be a senior assembly with scholarship donors on January 11th at 9am.  In addition, there will be a day in your English classes during the first two weeks of February for individual support, and a Local Scholarship Assistance available during common lunch on February 2, 9, 21 and 22. English teachers and counselors are available to assist with student essays. Please reach out to Mrs. Aviles (paviles@nutleyschools.org) or Director of School Counseling, Mrs. Gerckens (mgerckens@nutleyschools.org) with any questions.
