Parent Academies

The PreK Parent Academies are designed to provide our preschool families with essential information and resources to support their child's early education journey. Each session will focus on topics relevant to early childhood development and learning. We encourage all parents to attend these virtual informative sessions. Introduction to Creative Curriculum, Attendance as a Key Component of Your Student’s Success, & Understanding Your Child’s Report Card

Presented by April Vitiello, Coordinator & Daniella DaCunha, Preschool Instructional Coach 

Participants will learn about the different components of Creative Curriculum including ways to extend learning at home. The ways in which student attendance is tied to student success will be explored. Lastly, an understanding of your child’s report card and GOLD assessment will also be discussed.

Speech & Adaptive Skills

Presented by Kelly Huegel, Speech Therapist, Deanna Ruglio, Speech Therapist and Samantha Krych, Occupational Therapist 

Participants will learn about the development of speech, language, and communication skills as well as self help skills. This session will explore informative and interactive speech and language activities to incorporate throughout preschool students’ daily routines. Learn how play, modeling, and activities of daily living can increase communication and independence in preschool-aged children.

Preschool Mental Health

Presented by Daniella Jernick, Preschool Social Worker & Community Parent Involvement Specialist 

Science tells us that the foundations of good mental health are built early in life. This session will explore the impacts of early relationships with parents, caregivers, relatives, teachers, and peers.  Children’s  first five years are linked to emotional well-being. Understand how early experiences interact with genes to shape the developing brain.

About

The Nutley School District serves approximately 4,100 students in Kindergarten through grade 12. The five elementary schools serve students K-6 and include Lincoln School, Radcliffe School, Spring Garden School, Washington School and Yantacaw School. John H. Walker Middle School serves students in grades 7-8 while Nutley High School addresses the needs of students in grades 9-12.
