Dear Nutley Parents, Staff and Students,

I am writing to update you on important instructional dates for the remainder of May and June.

Last Monday, May 11th, was the district’s last Spring Break Monday. We know that these days have been helpful and appreciated by students, staff and families.  As we move into the final stretch of an already-challenging school year, we’d like to inform you of a few adjustments to our remaining schedule, and also some key dates for the school year’s end.

Monday, May 18th will be the first of our “Mindful Mondays” throughout the district. These days will be an opportunity for students and staff to focus on their own health and wellness, be it physical, mental, or social emotional, and support the district’s Strategic Plan goal focused on Health and Wellness.  We hope that these “Mindful Mondays” help ease the stress of students, teachers and parents. While regular instructional days, no new assignments will be given. Students can use these days to catch up on work that they may have fallen behind on, or to turn in any missed assignments.

In addition to May 18th, June 1st, 8th, and 15th will also be “Mindful Mondays.”

Students should visit their teachers’ Schoology class site for more information on these days (Grades 7-12 should visit their ELA/ESL class). The elementary and secondary links below will offer students a variety of “Mindful Monday” activities to pursue on one of these days or at any time. The links will be updated regularly with more activities. Students should complete the reflection, which will count as the day’s attendance.  Each teacher will also post their availability for these days in their Schoology class.

Scheduled IEP meetings and therapies will still occur on Mondays.

A reminder to NHS students: Students who are scheduled to take AP Exams and Rutgers University Health Science exams on Mondays should take exams instead of completing a choice task, which will count as attendance for the day.

Monday, May 25th, the district will be closed for the Memorial Day Holiday.

Friday, May 22nd, originally a single session for students and an afternoon of Professional Development for staff, will be a regular, virtual school day for all.

The last day of instruction for the 2019-2020 school year will be Friday, June 19th. Information regarding year end-activities such as moving up ceremonies, honor celebrations, and graduation will follow.

Sincerely,

Dr. Glazer, Superintendent
